We provide a list of therapists for your convenience. We do not endorse any of the individuals listed nor do we make any judgement about the appropriateness of any therapist for your particular needs.

You should expect to gather your own information about the level of skill, interest and experience of the clinicians listed.

In addition to his clinical work, he acts as a visiting lecturer for the Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at City University London. Garret works in a private clinic in Greenwich, providing both brief and longer-term therapy to adults.

Patsy McGill

Patsy McGill, Psychotherapist (MSc MBACP), Derbyshire

Patsy McGill (2015 Core Group, 2018 Advanced group and current shadower (“Trainer in Training”) with Core Group 10 of ISTDP-UK).

She is a psychotherapist and Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including an IAPT service, Employee Assistance Programmes and private practice.

She is fascinated to work within the attachment-based ISTDP framework, having seen the positive impact the related interventions can have on current interpersonal, health and psychological difficulties. She offers a warm and compassionate approach whilst naming unconscious beliefs and processes which contribute to distress, low mood and anxiety.

Her aim in all treatment is to help challenge unhelpful and self-sabotaging dynamics and promote self-compassion, self-care and self-acceptance.

Face-to-face work is located in Derbyshire and remote treatment (via video) is also available.

James Louis

Dr James Louis, Consultant Psychiatrist, Essex, Hertfordshire & Greater London

Dr James Louis is a Consultant Psychiatrist who has worked in the NHS for more than 20 years and is currently at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. He is also a qualified practitioner of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy. He completed his training in ISTDP with Josette ten Have-de Labije and Dr Robert Neborsky.

He specialises in working with adults with a range of complex difficulties and is also endorsed by the General Medical Council in treating and managing mental health problems associated with physical health issues. He provides training, consultation, and supervision to mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychotherapists based both within and outside the UK.

Dr Louis is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis. He is certified by IEDTA (International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association) as a teacher and supervisor in ISTDP. He is a trainer with ISTDP-UK.

Catherine Colley

Catherine Colley, Psychotherapist (MCs MBACP), NW London

Catherine Colley (2014 Core Group 5), MSc Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, is registered and accredited by the BACP. She has several years’ experience of working in an NHS Psychological Outpatients Dept and in a University Students’ Counselling Service.

He is an accredited MBT supervisor by the Anna Freud Centre, a Group Analytic Practitioner and associate member of the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA). Heather McCartney

Heather McCartney, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, Cheltenham & Cornwall

Heather McCartney is a highly experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapist who trained originally in the British Jungian tradition (BPC/WMIP). She completed Core Training with ISTDP UK in 2020 and offers ISTDP in private practice both online and face to face in Cheltenham and Cornwall.

He previously worked in outpatient clinics in the NHS. Prior to becoming a psychologist John was a professional ski-racer. He enjoys following sport, especially developments in sports psychology, as well as music and films.

Julie Beckett

Julie Beckett, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, Bristol & the South West

Julie Beckett (Core group 5) is a registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist and a member of FIP.

After training as an actress at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, she focused her attention on what emotional drivers lead to psychological distress, qualifying as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist at The Severnside Institute of Psychotherapy.
