Welcome to the ISTDP-UK Forum, and welcome to all our members.

I’m hoping that this Forum will help bridge the gap between the relative loneliness of our consulting rooms and the wider community of our colleagues—a place where we can share ideas, experiences, discoveries and frustrations.

I hope everyone will feel able to participate in whatever way feels comfortable. That might mean exploring ideas about theory and technique, recommending a book, sharing a useful resource, or simply passing on tips about where to stay or eat.

We are also frequently asked to help people find suitable therapists, and the Forum could be a useful place to share information about availability and location.

I know that all the Training Groups have their own WhatsApp groups, but until now there hasn’t been anything similar for those who have completed their training. Even if you do belong to a Training Group, I hope you’ll also use this Forum to connect with colleagues from other groups and share your experiences and ideas.

There is something particularly valuable about connecting with people who have been through the same training and encountered some of the same challenges and struggles. It can be reassuring, stimulating and sometimes simply good to discover that we are not alone in our experiences.

The one boundary I’d like to suggest is that the Forum isn’t used to ask for or provide supervision. Rather, I hope it can be a space to share our own experiences, thoughts, questions and ideas, and to learn from one another.

I’m genuinely delighted to see this new development in our history. I hope the Forum will grow into a lively and valuable space for connection, exchange and mutual support, and I very much look forward to hearing from you all and seeing the community develop.

And finally, photos of babies and pets are, of course, always welcome!
